6th China International Consumer Goods Fair (CICGF) Buyers’ Guide

1.  About CICGF

China International Consumer Goods Fair (CICGF), co-sponsored by Ministry of Commerce P.R.C. and Zhejiang Provincial Government, is the largest and most professional international consumer goods fair in China, which ranks only second to Canton Fair among all the exhibitions sponsored by Ministry of Commerce..

CICGF is held in the famous sea port city of Ningbo from June 8 to 12 every year. Five sessions have been successfully held since 2002, with several thousand enterprises from China and abroad exhibiting and thousands of buyers from 112 countries and regions attending. 

The 6th CICGF will be held from June 8 to 12, 2007, at Ningbo International Conference & Exhibition Center. 3000 booths will be set up, which will be divided into the following 6 exhibiting section:

• Electronics & home appliances
• Office supply, sports articles & furniture products
• Decoration & gifts                                          • Articles of daily use
• Foodstuffs

--Manufacturing base. 70% of the exhibiting enterprises are within hours’ or even minutes’ driving distance, making it much easier for buyers to explore.

--Excellent natural deep-water portwith cargo throughput ranking second in China and the fourth in the world. 163 container routes to over 600 ports in the world. All the world’s 20 top container shipping companies have offices in Ningbo.

    --Good exhibition infrastructure and excellent service. Good exhibition infrastructure, easy access to exhibitors online, free on-site English interpreter service and internet service, Christian and Muslim prayer spaces, reasonable hotel charges, etc., all make the fair such a   nice occasion to attend.

 

5. About the City of Ningbo, where the Fair is held

Situated by the East China Sea and next to Shanghai and Hangzhou, Ningbo is the economic center of the southern Yangtze River Delta, with a long historical and cultural record. It is Zhejiang Province’s second largest city, a separately planned city in economic management, and is widely known as the hometown for overseas Chinese. The city has  11 counties and districts with a total area of 9,365 square kilometers,  a population of 5.5 million. It is also home to the 7000-year-old “Hemudu Culture” and the famous cultural ruins such as the Tianyi Pavilion.

As one of the earliest cities opened up to the outside world, Ningbo has had a booming economy for the past two decades. The city’s comprehensive strength ranks 6th among 200 Chinese cities.  The cargo throughput of Ningbo Port in 2006 was over 300 million tons, ranking 2nd in China and 4th in the world.  The container throughput reached 706.75 million TEU, ranking 4th in China and the 13th in the world. The city’s foreign trade volume reached US$42.2  billion in 2006.

 

The 36 km Hangzhou Bay Sea Bridge is being built, connecting Ningbo with Shanghai. When operational in 2008, it will take only 2 hours to drive from Ningbo to Shanghai.

 

The city is famous for: China’s Metropolis of Famous Brands; China’ Metropolis of Stationery; China’s Metropolis of Molding; China’s Metropolis of Plastic Machineries;  China’s most famous garment-making city; one of China’s three major home electrical appliance manufacturing bases, etc.

 

Zhejiang Province is one of the world’s biggest consumer goods production bases with the greatest competitive strength in China. Most of  the famous brands in the province and the Yangtze River Delta will be exhibiting at the fair.

6. Getting to Ningbo                                    There are direct air routes linking Ningbo Lishe International Airport and  Hong Kong, Macao, Seoul and most of the major cities in mainland China. Train and bus transportation are also very convenient: there are 48 trains entering and leaving the city each day. Shuttle trains between Shanghai and Ningbo take only 3.5 hours; buses leave at 10-15 minutes’ intervals bound for Hangzhou and Shanghai.

7. Attractions in and around Ningbo

l       Hemudu Neolithic Cultural Ruins

Hemudu Ruins has been verified to have a history of 7000 years. From the site, large amount of rice, animals' remains, fruits, wooden buildings, oars, thousands of ceramic vessels and primitive handicraft have been excavated. This stands to prove that Ningbo is the first place to grow rice. Like the Yellow Valley, Yangtze Valley is also the origin of China's brilliant culture.

 

l       Cicheng, an over-1000-year-old Ancient Town

With its long history, the town is known far and wide as the "Most Charming Ancient Town South of the Yangtze River" for its beautiful scenery, city walls and abundant cultural relics. 

 

l       Tianyi Pavilion Library

The library, which has survived 430 years of dramas and upheavals, is the oldest existing private library of China and Asia, and one of the world's three oldest libraries kept by a family.

 

l       Xikou Town

Xikou, in Fenghua County, is a 4-star national-grade scenic spot, well-known home and abroad for its integrity of Buddhist culture, humane culture, and scenic beauty. It is the place for Buddhist and also the home town of Mr. Chiang Kai-Sheik and his son Chiang Ching-Kuo--two important historical figures in the modern history of China. Also it is a famous scenic spot, including the following spots: Xikou Town, Xuedou Hill and Tingxia Lake.

 

l       Tianyi Square

The Tianyi Square, also known as Tianyi Business District, is situated downtown Ningbo in the business center. With its multi-functionalities of shopping and entertainment, it is known as the "Business Aircraft Carrier of Ningbo" and the "Face of Ningbo City".

 

l       Baoguo Temple

Baoguo Temple is a thousand-year-old renowned temple and one of the first cultural relic sites designated to be specially preserved in China.

 

l        Tiantong Temple

 

As one of the ten sacred temples of the Buddhist Chan sect, Tiantong Temple is also known as "Buddha's Holy Land in Southeast China".

 

l       Putuoshan Mountain Tour

Putuoshan Mountain is an island at the east part of Zhoushan Islands - consisting of more than 1000 islands - about half way between Shanghai and Ningbo. It is one of the four Buddhist Mountains of China. The four Chinese Buddhist Mountains are each believed to be dominated by a major Buddha; Putuoshan is regarded as the sacred mountain of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, and so statues of Guanyin are a dominant theme here.

The island is famous for its old religious culture and unique island scenery. The island is known for its rugged terrain and exquisite landscape, featuring an array of temples, pagodas, arched bridges, narrow alleys, fishing boats, and artisans' shops.

l       Hangzhou Tour

Hangzhou is two hours’ drive from Ningbo. West Lake Scenic Spots is the most famous tourist spot in Hangzhou. West Lake is filled with history, natural beauties and legend.

The Lake is like a shining pearl inlaid on the vast land of China, reputed for beautiful scenery, a multitude of historical sites, brilliant cultural relics, and a profusion of native products. West Lake has inspired painters for centuries. In ancient times, this place had been a shallow sea gulf before it evolved into a residual lake. Most of the best known tourist sites lie around and within the lake.
